Conçue à la fin des années 1960 par Richard Neagle pour l’éditeur italien Luigi Sormani, la chaise Nike incarne parfaitement l’esprit visionnaire du design Space Age. Créée à l’origine dans le cadre du projet NOVA, la « Maison du Futur » commandée par Disneyland Californie, elle s’inscrit dans un mouvement d’avant-garde explorant le potentiel du plastique thermoformé et des formes biomorphiques. Avec sa coque blanche aux courbes fluides, son piétement tulipe et ses coussins d’origine couleur camel, cette assise évoque à la fois les utopies modernistes et le confort hédoniste d’une époque tournée vers l’avenir. Le repose-pieds assorti — rarement conservé — complète l’ensemble avec une continuité sculpturale qui renforce son caractère unique. En 1970, la Nike fut présentée au Victoria & Albert Museum de Londres comme l’une des innovations majeures en matière de sièges depuis 1918. Une pièce iconique, au croisement de la culture pop, de la recherche formelle et du patrimoine industriel.
